The Lord laid upon our Pastor's heart the need for an outdoor Tabernacle that will serve many uses as we meet to worship Him. From the time we broke ground to the time we finished the concrete was 3 weeks. That's amazing in itself, but something more amazing is the Lord worked. God sent us a man who was out of work at the time. He did most of the work, without charge, and the day we finished the job, he got a call to come back to work. God is good, all the time.
The Tabernacle was finished just in time to hold our third Camp Meeting. What a blessing it was to gather together and worship the Creator in the cool of the outdoors.
Lord willing, we will hold many services in the Tabernacle. Some are already planning for our first wedding. From late Spring to early Fall we plan to hold Gospel sings, probably once a month. I cannot wait till we hold our first Sunday morning service. No doubt we'll have many picnics and "chicken on the ground". A lot of ways to use the Tabernacle cross my mind, but the thing most dear to my heart is when we gather for Camp Meeting, when folks of God come from many corners to worship with us.
Dan Rains was one of our preachers, who loved Friendship, and spent many hours working on projects around the church, including the Tabernacle which he worked on diligently even though diabetes had taken much of his sight. He went home to be with the Lord on April 4, 2010. Because of Dan's dedication to Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, we have named the Tabernacle the "DANIEL RAINS TABERNACLE."
Our plans are at some point in the not too distant future to enclose the Tabernacle with garage type doors that will protect us from the elements if needed. If you would like to help us do this, it would be greatly appreciated.
